Wedding Bells for an Osmond Brother!

Hello again! I can’t wait another minute to tell you about my brother’s January wedding! My brother Tommy joined Virl in the ranks of the “married Osmond Brothers” when he and Lyn Heslop exchanged wedding vows on January 13, 1972!

It’s true when they say that every bride is radiant and beautiful–because Lyn was absolutely gorgeous! Tommy looked very handsome and very, very happy too! In fact, the entire Osmond family has been grinning happily every time the wedding is mentioned or when they see the wedding pictures (which is every other minute! It seems like we pass around copies of the wedding pictures all day long!)

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Lyn is 23 years old and Tommy is 24. They met while Lyn was one of the secretaries for my brothers fan club in Salt Lake City. It was almost like love at first sight for Lyn and Tommy. They saw each other and “boom!” they fell in love!

Mother couldn’t be happier–she adores Lyn as much as the rest of the family. Besides, I think my mom wants as many girls in the family to sort of even things out. After all, for such a long time, before Lyn and Virl’s wife Chris, there was only mom and I as the girls–and there were nine guys! Since there six more unmarried boys in the family, I think mom’s got a great chance about evening out the numbers–don’t you?

FEMININE DRESSES

I was one of Lyn’s bridesmaids and I just loved the dress I wore. Lyn’s mom, Mrs. Heslop, made my dress for me! It was red and white lace and chiffon with a scoop neck, long sleeves, and it flowed all the way down to the ground. I felt like a fairy princess–the dress was so feminine and so soft! The gardenias we carried were beautiful too!

Virl was Tommy’s best man–and I think that he was more nervous than Tommy was!

I have to explain something about how marriage vows are exchanged in the Mormon religion. First, only people who have what we call Temple Recommends are allowed to witness a marriage, because the actual marriage is held in the Temple. I have never been in the temple and neither has Wayne, Alan, Merrill, Donny, Jay, or Jimmy–and we won’t ever be allowed in until we get a Temple Recommend.

BIG RECEPTION

My parents, Lyn’s parents, and Virl and Chris were the only ones in the temple with Tommy and Lyn as they exchanged vows! But after the marriage vows, the entire Osmond family and invited guests (which numbered somewhere between 600-800 people!) Filed into the reception hall for the wedding reception. It was so much fun, and the wedding cake was absolutely gigantic!

Tommy and Lyn’s wedding bands are gorgeous! They’re thick gold bands with a single diamond in the middle. The wedding invitations were Tommy’s design–he also printed them up. The front had his and Lyn’s picture on it!

TRIP TO FLORIDA

I could go on forever about the wedding–there were thousands wonderfully fantastic details about it, but I have to tell you about our Florida trip too. Besides, Ann Moses, Tiger Beat’s editor, was at the reception and shall fill you in on all the gaps of information I left. The trip to Florida was fabulous and the boys had the most wonderful audiences at the Diplomat Hotel where they played. There was only three bad things that happened in Florida–but not counting those things, everything was great fun!

First, we got trapped in our rooms. There were hundreds of fans out in the halls and every time one of the boys would even stick his head out the door, there would be near riot! It was sort of scary! Each boy had to have guards–and one time the only time Donny could leave the hotel was in the company of five guards and he had to sneak down the service elevator.

We really didn’t like being so sneaky–the boys have never had to be separated from fans before! It made them feel really bad, but some people were getting hurt in the rush, so it couldn’t be helped!

One of the times we sneaked out, we played golf and rode horses. But it was sort of a windy, rainy day and we all caught colds! It seems that we just get over one cold and then the next day we have another one!

And then to top off the colds, Jimmy got bumped off his horse and landed on his head! Thank goodness he wasn’t really hurt! But he’s got this enormous goose egg bump on his poor head!

Another sad thing was that I didn’t get the fantastic tan I wanted to get–but I’m working on it! Maybe by next month, so I’ll have a gorgeous golden-brown! So let’s both hope for sunny days until then–okay? Until next month–stay happy!
