Christmas Memories I’ll Cherish Always!
Hello and a very Merry Christmas to all of you from the Osmond family! Today, filled to the brim with happy memories. . .especially Christmas memories. But before I start rattling on about that, I’ve got some very exciting news about the boys Midwest tour!
As usual, each audience from the very first concert in Detroit, was fabulous! But the final show in Toronto, Canada was something the boys will treasure forever! They played at the CNE Baseball Park–the Canadian National Exposition. The big surprise was that the boy’s show was completely sold out–that’s 25,000 fans who came to cheer the boys on! I thought Mother, Father and I were going to pop open with pride!
Moments like watching the boys from the wings of the stage, knowing they’re giving a perfect performance, and then hearing and seeing an audience love them are when I most have to choke back tears of joy! I wouldn’t trade places with a Queen of two’ countries, or the most famous movie star in Hollywood if it meant missing those moments of sharing my brothers’ happiness during concert tours–we love every minute!
WRITTEN MESSAGES
On the Midwest tour, we rented a huge Greyhound bus to travel and–including all the musicians and managers, we totaled 223 traveling music-makers! It was fun, every single mile we traveled was filled with music and laughter!
Unfortunately, the bus didn’t have as much good fortune as we did! After each concert, we come out to find written messages all over it! Most of the messages were written in lipstick! They said cute things, but what an icky mess to clean up! Some of the note said, “Donny, I love you!” “Jay, call me! My number is…” “Merrill-write to me at…” “Wayne, I’ll wait forever!” Or “Alan, a girl name Mary adores you!”
Another exciting incident at the Toronto concert that I got to tell you about was the Osmond Brothers finally met the Jackson 5–face-to-face! The sad thing about it is that neither group has a single picture of the historic meeting! We had a fine photographer with us during the entire tour and each one of his pics turned out gorgeous. The role of film he used to take the pictures of the J-5 and the boys turned out to be a bummer… Not one picture came out! They were just blank pieces of paper! We were so disappointed that it almost hurt just thinking about it!
CHRISTMAS MEMORIES
Now, before I run out of space, I want to share some Osmond Christmas memories with you! This year the boys are going to be performing at the Disney hotel in Florida. It’s going to be fun, but we’ll miss spending the holidays in Utah! The thing we’ll miss a lot is the snow! What’s Christmas without lots and lots of pure white, clean, sparkling snow covering the houses, trees, parked cars, and sidewalks?
The one Christmas I remember so well was about four years ago–at Utah–and there was snow on the ground! Father always takes moving pictures of us climbing the stairs and marching towards the tree, every year! There we were, from the oldest down to Jimmy! It was about 5 AM–none of us could wait a second longer for the day to begin!
The tree was the biggest ever end it was loaded down with all sizes of candy canes–hundreds it seemed like! I knew the tree was pretty, but there’s something about Christmas morning that makes each tree look especially big and shiny, don’t you agree? The tree had all the lights that have been in our family since Virl was a baby! Plus, here and there, an ornament that one of us made when we were little, and our parents insist on keeping them year after year. So, somehow, they keep popping up on the tree every year!
HAPPINESS ON HOLIDAYS
After opening up presenyd snf saying thank you’s the boys cleaned up the roomful of wrapping paper and ribbons, and Mother and I started cooking our traditional Christmas breakfast! Most families settle for just dinner, but our holiday includes breakfast! We usually have a big pancake breakfast with all the trimmings! The food that really marks it is Christmas is the ebleskivers–a cupcake like pastry with applesauce in the center. A Swedish lady taught Mom how to make it years ago and it’s become a part of our Christmas breakfast! Then everyone snacked until the big dinner of turkey, cranberry sauce, chestnuts, and everything!
Oh, there are so many Christmases that hold meaning for me, and the one four years ago is another memory I’ll cherish. I wish I could tell you about all of them! I’m sure you have lots of holiday memories too! Why don’t you write and tell me about them? I’d love to hear about them!
My brothers and I would like to wish everyone happiness on the holidays and all during the new year. We’d like you to join us in praying for peace. Much love and joy to you!
