Oh brother (or should I say “oh Osmond Brothers!”–hah!), Have I got a lot to tell you! It’s hard to believe that so much can happen in two weeks, but I guess in a town as exciting as Las Vegas, almost anything should be expected!
I’m not going to complain about having those great guys as my brothers (what’s to complain about?), But I am going to sound off about how hard it is to keep up with all of them! After a few days of trailing them around (they started thinking of me as their shadow instead of a sister!), I finally learned the secret of finding them: Look for a group of girls, and my brothers are right in the middle!
PARTIES AND SERENADES
I’ve got to tell you about the fantastic autograph party the boys had at Wonder World in Las Vegas! Arrangements for about 4,000 people were made, but 8,000–that’s right 8,000 Osmond fans showed up! I still can’t believe that number; the boys were numb with delight! I’ve seen them happy after a good performance, but their eyes were extra bright in their smiles were extra big for the party!
The boys enjoyed every minute of it, but the girls enthusiasm got a bit out of hand and the party had to be cut short a few hours. That didn’t make the boys happy–they wanted to meet and talk with everyone!
The funniest thing that a group of about 10 girls, who waited outside our suite at Caesar’s Palace every night, did was to serenade the boys on the last night! Our suite was near the pool, and the girls stood around the pool and looked towards our balcony singing “One Bad Apple!” All the boys stood on the balcony and applauded loudly after the girl sang! It was really cute!
The audience’s favorite song was “One Bad Apple.” The second favorite was probably the instrumental number made up of a whole bunch of songs and each guy had a solo playing his instrument! Alan played his guitar, Wayne played a 12 string guitar, Merrill had the base, Jay was on the drums, and Donny handled the organ!
My favorite number was when Jerry Lewis conducted the boys singing “Oh Danny Boy” a cappella–without musical accompaniment! There’s a part when Donny was supposed to sing a solo and Jerry would make funny faces at him, tell him to sing louder or quieter, or to join in when he wasn’t supposed to! Donny cracked up every night–and so did the audience!
The boys got a big kick from performing with Jerry Lewis, but their funniest moments were on stage. The boys liked to tease each other about the girl sitting in the hall calling out their names! If a girl called out Wayne’s name, the other guys would say, “Wayne, one of your fan awaits you!” Or “Jay, you’re being paged!” Or “Merrill, do you hear someone yelling your name?” The boys had lots of fun talking with most of the girls who waited in the hall!
SPECIAL GUESTS
We had some special guests for a few days. Our grandmother stayed with us for three days, and some cousins from Utah came too! Everything was fun, and the only bad thing during the whole trip was that Jimmy caught the flu, then I got it, and Donny had some of the symptoms, but he didn’t get it badly–which was lucky because after the two weeks in Las Vegas and a four day rest, we had a month tour in Japan waiting for us!
I got three multicolored maxi dresses for Japan because I’m going to sing and dance to “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” with Donny! Wayne is teaching me a Japanese song to sing too (I hope I learn as fast as Jimmy learns them!) Alan is going to choreograph the dance Donny and I will do! Jimmy will be for performing too!
Oops, I’ve got to go–I’ve run out of room! I’ll save this space so I can tell you about the Japan tour next month–okay? See you then!
