What Love Means to the Osmond Brothers!
Hi! I’ve got a very important topic I want to share with you this month! It’s the most important thing in the world–LOVE!
You know what got me thinking about love? My watch! That sound a little funny? Let me explain. Donny gave me an adorable “Love is…” Watch on his birthday, and every time I look to see what time it is I am reminded of love! (Editor’s note: this was at his birthday party at MY house in Hollywood!)
Everyone has their own idea about love–and I thought it would be great to find out just exactly how my brothers defined love! So, I asked them to finish this sentence: “To get me, love is…!” (Wonder where I got the idea for the sentence!)
LOVE OVERRATED
Each of my brothers paused a long time before they answered. You see, love isn’t taken lightly at the Osmond home. Any kind of love–whether it’s a love shared between a boy and a girl, a Guyanese pet, or a family love! Because it is loved and that is being shared, it’s very precious!
Not too long ago, I heard someone say that love was overrated! I disagree… Love can never be considered too important! The sad thing about the word love is that it’s so overused!
I’m sure that during a day, you hear the word love used at least 50 times. Perhaps you even use it that much yourself. Think about it. Can’t you just hear yourself or one of your best friends saying “Oh, I love that hairdo!” Or “I just love that dress!”
LOVE IS FOREVER
The first one I asked was Donny, and he thought seriously for a long time then he said, “Love is forever!” He didn’t have to explain what he meant! We Osmond’s believe that giving love to someone else is like making a promise. A promise if it’s going to mean anything, has to be a forever kind of thing! If it’s just given for a little while, then the true meaning of love is lost!
For Jay, he says that “Love is caring!” I would’ve expected Jay to come up with an answer like that. Jay’s the kind of guy who shows his love and appreciation through the amount of care he gives someone or something. For instance, Jay loves his pets and all sorts of animals. He shows his love for them by giving them time, kindness, and care!
Merrill was feeling romantic when I saw him, and his answer shows his romantic mood. He said, “Love is tenderness!” Everybody has dreams about how lovely falling in love is going to be. And for Merrill, it’s going to be soft lights, full moons, and quiet walks on the beach–all shared tenderly with his lady love!
Another brother of mine who is big on sharing is Wayne. To Wayne, “Love is sharing!” Wayne told me that he wants to totally share himself with the girl of his life. That would mean that she would always be a large part of Wayne’s career and life. Then as they shared more and more of each other’s life that would almost become one… Knowing each other’s thoughts, feelings, and dreams without having to talk about them!
When I asked Alan what love meant to him, he grinned and said, “Simple. Love is happiness!” That’s true–have you ever seen a person who’s really in love? They have happy smiles, happy way of walking (they almost seem to float), a happy twinkle in their eyes, and the happiest way of talking! As long as they’re in love, nothing could be wrong!
MANY KINDS
Of course, there’s as many kinds of love as there are people. My brothers describe the kind of love that shared between two people. Before, I mention the kind of love that everybody uses when they see something that pleases them. There’s so many kinds!
My brother said it was hard to think of one word definitions for love–because they could’ve talk so much more about it! In fact, they made a recording saying more about the subject of love! They tell you, in their own words, with their true feelings are about love! For more details, see page 42. (Our publisher Chuck Laufer never missed a chance to promote our in-house products!)
It’s been fun writing about love–it’s one subject that will have books, letters, articles, and stories written about it forever! And now the Osmond Brothers have added their definition of love to the volumes already written!
I’ve gotta go, but before I do, the boys wanted me to add another definition to their list–“love is YOU!” The boys promise to always try to make you happy–and remember an Osmond promise like our love–it’s forever! Bye for now… And here’s wishing you a lifetime of smiles!
