Cameras moved quickly back and forth getting just the right angle on the elaborately designed set. Wardrobe men were checking the final details of costumes. And the director was checking to see that everyone was in place. This was the scene when Tiger Beat’s editor Ann Moses arrived on the set at CBS-TV where the Osmond Brothers were taping their very first television special. Because the boys were working night and day to make the special perfect, it was decided that this would be the best place for Ann to conduct her up-to-the-minute interview with Wayne, the fourth such interview in the exclusive Osmond series.
Following an exciting and exhausting dance number the boys were given a half-hour break for lunch it was during this time that Ann and Wayne found a quiet corner in the CBS cafeteria and had their heart-to-heart talk. Wayne was his cheerful self, although he was tired from the weeks and weeks of rehearsals in preparation for the special. Wayne, being the shyest of the family, thought about each question carefully before giving his honest answers. Here, then, are the answers to the questions you’ve been asking:
TIGER BEAT: WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE POSSESSION AND WHY?
WAYNE: I think my religion is my most valuable possession because it’s something that’s very important to my life. It’s something I hold very dear.
TIGER BEAT: DO YOU HAVE A MOST VALUABLE POSSESSION THAT’S A MATERIAL OBJECT?
WAYNE: Not really. I could do without material things very easily. They’re not important to me.
TIGER BEAT: WHAT KIND OF GIRL DO YOU FIND MOST ATTRACTIVE?

WAYNE: The kind that is easy to talk to, ones that like the same thing I do. I don’t like girls that are boisterous and show off.
TIGER BEAT: WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO SEE GIRLS WEAR?
WAYNE: I like girls to wear things that are very feminine. I don’t dig girls in jeans and T-shirts. Slacks are okay at certain times, but I don’t like girls to look scruffy.
TIGER BEAT: WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO ON DATES?
WAYNE: It depends on what kind of a girl you’re with. If it’s someone you know pretty well, it’s groovy just to sit around and talk, but that gets old sometimes too! I like to go to dances. I don’t dance that well, but I still think they’re fun. Movies aren’t fun to go to anymore. I’d like to do things in the daytime too.
TIGER BEAT: HAVE YOU EVER RECEIVED A PRESENT FROM A FAN THAT IS REALLY IMPRESSED YOU?
WAYNE: Well, one girl sent me a cross and it was really beautiful. She said she was an Italian girl and that her priest had blessed it. She said she couldn’t find a pair of pilots wings so she said, “this is your pilot’s wings.” I thought that was really nice.
TIGER BEAT: WHEN YOU MARRY, WOULD YOU WANT YOUR WIFE TO BE IN SHOW BUSINESS?
WAYNE: No, I don’t. But I’d want her to know all about show business. I’ll still be in it then, and if she understands what you have to go through, it will be easier for her to live with the pressures a show business life can demand.
TIGER BEAT: WOULD YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO GO INTO SHOW BUSINESS?

WAYNE: I want them to. Show business teaches you how to work, and how to get along with people. I would want my kids to know this, and I can’t think of a groovier way to learn! It’s a great field, with both good and bad sides, but I think there’s more good.
TIGER BEAT: YOUR LIFE TODAY–IS IT PLEASANT OR DOES IT GET ON YOUR NERVES?
WAYNE: Oh, man, it’s a snap! I love it! It’s hard being in show business, it’s a lot of hard work, but if you enjoy it you can make it more fun than work. There’s nothing about life that bothers me. . .except the smog!
TIGER BEAT: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS YOUR BIGGEST FAULT?
WAYNE: I’m very impatient at times.
TIGER BEAT: DO YOU THINK YOU ARE MOODY OR ARE YOU GENERALLY PRETTY HAPPY?
WAYNE: Oh, I’m happy all the time! People have told me that I give the impression of being moody at times, but it’s only because I’m listening instead of talking and they mistake it for being moody.
TIGER BEAT: DO YOU FORESEE ANY OF THE OSMOND BROTHERS GOING OUT ON THEIR OWN?
WAYNE: Maybe later, not now. We like working together too much right now to split up. I can’t see any of us really going our own ways right now. We’ll always be close. I think the girls any of us eventually marry will all care for our families too. They would have to because we are all so close.
TIGER BEAT: HAVE YOU EVER DATED A FAN?
WAYNE: No, but I’d love to. We really dig our fans.
TIGER BEAT: WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE SOME DAY?
WAYNE: I’d really love living on a ranch, with horses and cattle. A big ranch house with an airstrip nearby, of course! Every time we get a chance to go to our ranch in Utah, we all love it. It’s out in the country and we can really be free and enjoy all the nature around us. That’s hard when you’re in a recording studio. Do you know what I mean? We’d like to balance our work indoors with time spent outdoors.
